Kitchen Garden 2011
Second hand plastic table ware, adhesives.
Various - Plinth approximately L: 204cm x H: 85cm W: 62cm
Kitchen Garden consists of an arrangement of five flower-like forms assembled from second hand plastic tableware; each luminous ‘hybrid’ exploits the translucent and jewel like colours of the plastic ware its materiality echoing the fragile beauty and ephemeral nature of natural blooms.
Drawn to the inherent colour of the plastic tableware and its responsiveness to light Katy refashions these cast off items in order to explore colour form and light and ideas around transformation and temporality.
Kitchen Garden references the garden to plate philosophy which has regained popularity as a means towards sustainable living and draws attention to the beauty of the everyday whilst also suggesting that environmental awareness can literally start on a domestic level in your own backyard.
